THE B.O.B., ACTION WATER SPORTS, STEP UP PRODUCTIONS, ADRENALINE GAMES ALLIANCE AND PLACID WAKE PARK PRESENT WAKE WARS, JULY 16-17, 2011
A Weekend Wakeboarding Competition Returns To Downtown Grand Rapids At The B.O.B.

Grand Rapids, MI (June 13, 2010) – The B.O.B. (i.e. The Big Old Building), known for its landmark status as the entertainment and dining destination in downtown Grand Rapids, is proud to announce the return of Wake Wars for the third year in a row, July 16-17, 2011. For an entire weekend, The B.O.B. will transform its downtown parking lot into a free, family-friendly wakeboarding oasis welcoming to all ages and extreme competition zone by constructing two above-ground pools that, combined, hold 40,000 gallons of water. The event will be produced with the help of Action Water Sports, Step Up Productions, Adrenaline Games Alliance (AGA) and Placid Wake Park.

Featuring professional, advanced and amateur wakeboarders and wakeskaters, riders will be thrust through a 20’ wide x 40’ long take-off pool via a motorized winch system just as if they were being pulled by a boat, where they will launch into the air showcasing their best tricks before landing in a 40’ wide x 90’ long splash pool. The action takes place Saturday, July 16, 11:00 a.m. until approximately 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, July 17, 11:00 a.m. until approximately 10:00 p.m. For the complete schedule, please visit the official Wake Wars Web site at http://thebob.com/wakewars.

Wakeboard athletes interested in competing may contact Kevin Zoodsma of Action Water Sports at kevinz@actionwater.com. There is a $60 registration fee for riders only. Riders of all ages may sign up, but one’s skill level must be proficient enough in order to participate in the competition.

The industry professionals at Placid Wake Park will host the McDonald’s AGA Wakeboard Clinic each morning, available for free and open to the public. For one hour before the official action kicks off, riders new to the sport can learn from the best, and depending on their skill level may have the opportunity to even test their grit in a supportive environment in the same competition pools as the pro athletes.

For those who feel more comfortable on dry land, Wake Wars will also feature the AGA Pro Show BMX Demo. Adjacent to the wakeboarding action multiple times throughout the weekend will be a team of professional BMX riders highlighting some of the action sport’s best riding and impressive tricks on two tires. To complement the demo, the riders will also hold free instructional clinics beforehand to novice riders or those who simply want to perfect their style. Riders will also be available for informal meet-and-greet sessions and to sign autographs.

On the Red Bull Stage, resident DJs from Crush and Eve – Casey Cochran, Dav, Dirty North featuring JDUBB & MattB, Greg Knott, DJ L.A., Steve Swift, Jason Veeder and Mark Witz – will provide the soundtrack for the weekend.
